Produced under the Province of Canada, many varieties of the 1859 one cent coin were dated with a narrow 9 punch by numerous dies with various instances of re-punching. This mint state example represents the Double Punched Narrow 9 T1 variety. Overall toning in a dark chestnut hue creates a dramatic appearance for this one cent piece. Graded as Extra Fine, the well struck relief maintains strong features, but light signs of wear are evident on the high point of the relief. Details remain in the laurel crown worn by Queen Victoria, as well as the reverse maple leaf design. A wonderful coin overall with a distinctive charm.
