His Majesty King Charles III has officially authorized this large and impressive limited edition five ounce fine silver medallion for Canadians to commemorate the May 6, 2023 Coronation.  Engraved by retired Royal Canadian Mint Senior Engraver Susan Taylor, the obverse features conjoined effigies of Their Majesties King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla together with the date of the coronation.  The reverse features a bold wreath of six Canadian maple leaves encircling St. Edward’s Crown. 

Each maple leaf represents one of the Kings and Queens of Canada since confederation:  Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II, and now King Charles III.  St. Edward’s Crown is the central motif, as it has been used for the formal coronation ceremony of British monarchs for more than 700 years.

The medallion has a diameter of 65.25 mm (2.6 inches) and features ultra-high relief detail and a frosted proof finish.  It is presented in a premium quality mahogany finish display case together with a certificate of authenticity.  Mintage is limited to just 600 pieces.  HST/GST exempt.

Since the coronation of King Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine in 1154, the wife of a King is also crowned as Queen as part of the coronation ceremony.  This included King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth (Bowes-Lyon) in 1937, King George V and Queen Mary in 1911, and King Edward and Queen Alexandra in 1902.  Coronations have taken place at Westminster Abbey since William the Conqueror in 1066.

Medals or medallions have been issued for the coronation of every British monarch for more than five centuries, and this attractive collectible continues the long tradition.
