Own a piece of Canadian history with this original mint sealed box containing 2,500 brilliant uncirculated examples of Canada’s last one cent coins dated 2012, together with an eight piece cent collection spanning over 100 years and providing a retrospective of Canada’s one cent denomination. This box is the magnetic copper plated steel variety. A non-magnetic copper plated zinc variety original mint box is also available under item #713173.
The demise of the penny was part of a budget announcement on March 29. 2012, providing just five weeks’ notice to Canadians and to the Royal Canadian Mint. Because of the short notice time, a large portion of the 2012 cent coins remained unissued, and many were recycled by the mint for their metal value after the cent was officially discontinued. This adds substantially to the scarcity and desirability of Canada’s final cent coin issue.
Two Types of Coins Issued
To make this issue even more interesting, two distinctly different types of coins were produced during the short production run. The first coins were produced using magnetic copper plated multiply steel blanks, while coins produced after this first run were struck using non-magnetic copper plated zinc blanks. Original mint boxes include standard shrink wrap rolls (without any special wrap).
Superb Quality Coins
While all the 2500 coins are in brilliant uncirculated condition, advanced collectors will recognize that the highest condition premium uncirculated examples are often found in this type of original box. Most of the coins in the rolls will grade as choice to near perfect gem uncirculated (MS-63 to MS-67). This original sealed box will contain 50 standard clear shrink wrap rolls (without a special wrap). Each roll contains 50 coins.
