In 2012, the last Canadian one cent coin was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint’s Winnipeg facility. Now, over a decade later, the cent’s classic maple leaf twig design has been brought out of retirement for a limited appearance on this one ounce fine silver tribute penny. Mintage is limited to 15,000. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Struck in a tailored specimen finish, the maple leaves feature a soft satin finish, while the field is filled with angled lines that meet at the centre. These lines are a nod to the pyramid-shaped Winnipeg RCM facility where all Canadian pennies were minted for circulation between 1976 and 2012. Although regular cent coins were made at the RCM Winnipeg branch mint, it is only these special issue collector coins that feature the “W” mint mark.
