The Design:
The design by Canadian Artist Emily Damstra features the Red-Tailed hawk in its natural setting. This large bird is viewed from the perspective of its prey. The hawk is in a dive on outstretched wings, fixed gaze and talons ready. Engraving recreates details in the features, while selective colour captures the reddish-brown, cream, yellow and brown-spotted patterning of this fierce, determined bird.
Red-Tailed Hawk:
This red-tailed hawk is a top predator, using tall perches to spot their prey. Red-tailed hawks also hunt from the air. As they circle, they can spot a mouse from 30 meters, they then swoop down and grab their prey in its talons.
Male and female red-tailed hawks look alike, their length is 45cm-65cm, with a wingspan of 114 cm-133cm, and can weigh from 690 grams to 1460 grams.
