This fascinating 2016 low mintage coin showcases the art of illusion and brings you two images for the price of one—a stunning Canadian landscape and an optical illusion of a mountain goat. The coin features a ridge of moraine covered in grass and spruce trees, but on closer examination a mountain goat emerges from its sloping side. Mintage is limited to 5,500. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The coin is called Mountain Goat and features an alpine scene in colour. Mountains rise from the left and right while a ridge of moraine from retreating glaciers dominate the center of the scene. The mound has been reclaimed by nature, covered with grass and spruce trees, but on closer examination, a mountain goat emerges from the sloping side. The body is shaped by melting snow and exposed stone, while the trunks of the trees stand as legs and horns.
