This beautiful and dynamic $20 coin completes the “Story of the Northern Lights” series. It uses a stunning holographic effect to depict a raven in flight above an engraved coniferous mountainside, set against a sky lit by the northern lights. The raven and sky are entirely holographic. The coin weighs just over one ounce of fine silver, and has a mintage limited to 8,500. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
The central design features a flying raven with wings fully outstretched. The lower part of the image, engraved in silver, features rocky mountainous terrain cradling a coniferous forest. The “sky” above the mountains and surrounding the raven uses a holographic effect reminiscent of the ever-changing, swirling rainbow of the aurora borealis.
The Northern Lights:
The Northern Lights are actually a clash between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere. The lights are seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres.
