Based on its initial collector response, the new 2013 “O Canada” coin series is likely to be one of the most sought after and difficult to obtain modern collections from the Royal Canadian Mint. Subscriptions for all twelve coins sold out from the Mint almost immediately, and single coins can be extremely difficult to find. This is the seventh coin in the 12 coin series celebrating our national identity and featuring some of Canada’s most popular images and icons. Total mintage for each is limited to 40,000. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
This $10 silver coin depicts a man, woman and child standing behind the fence on an observation deck at the base of Horseshoe Falls—one of the three waterfalls that makes up the Niagara Falls. The Falls are viewed from a vantage point of being near the base, highlighting its massive size and power. This coin also features the jagged rock face of the Niagara Gorge, and two seagulls soaring overhead. The reverse is engraved with the word "CANADA," the date "2013" and the face value of "10 DOLLARS."
Niagara Falls:
The 58-kilometre Niagara River is home to one of the world's greatest natural wonders: the massive Niagara Falls. A destination for explorers, daredevils and tourists, the Falls are iconic not only for their beauty, but for connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. A major source of electric power generation and fresh water, the Niagara Falls is an important symbol of the rich base of natural resources that make Canada unique.
