This beautiful and popular full colour 2015 25 Cent coin is part of a Canadian Ducks series, and features a pair of Cinnamon Teal ducks in their natural habitat. Mintage limited to 17,500 coins.
The Design:
The crimson male with his striking red eyes and patch of light blue on his wing front wades in a pond near a swimming female. The female, with gray-brown colouring and eye stripe is seen behind the male cinnamon teal. A water lily and lily pad float in the foreground. The coin is also engraved with the word “CANADA,” the date “2015” and the face value of “25 CENTS.” Although the nominal face value is 25 cents, this is very different from a circulation issue coin. This collector issue features a large 35 mm diameter, and is produced advanced striking and coin painting processes.
Cinnamon Teal:
This dabbler duck feeds on aquatic vegetation, invertebrates, and mollusks with their long bills. Cinnamon teals sometimes interbreed with blue-winged teals. Female cinnamon teals and blue-winged teals bear such close resemblance that they are difficult to identify even by experienced bird-watchers.
