The Maple leaf has served as a symbol of pride and national identity for Canadians dating back to more than 100 years before Confederation. For 2013, the Royal Canadian Mint has taken this classic symbol and created a new $3 collector coin with an artistic modern image in pure silver. Mintage is 10,000 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Royal Canadian Mint engraver José Osio's work highlights the beauty and variety of the iconic maple leaf. The finely engraved reverse features the sunken central impression of a maple leaf filled with beautiful translucent red enamel, allowing light to reflect off the facets inside. The central image is set amongst more than 100 smaller maple leaves. The back is engraved with the word "CANADA," the date "2013" and the face value of "3 DOLLARS."
In addition to its presence on our national flag, various provincial flags and coats of arms, the maple leaf has been featured on most Canadian coins from 1858 to 1936, and on Canadian one cent coins from 1858 to the final issue in 2012.
