This huge silver coin has a diameter of more than 10 cm (4 inches), and weighs one full kilogram – 32.15 ounces of .9999 pure silver.  The face value is $250.  With a mintage of just 500 coins, this is one of the lowest mintage silver coins ever produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.  As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

The coin is a stunning tribute to the bicentennial anniversary of the battle in the War of 1812, and details a compelling portrayal of de Salaberry rallying his diverse and united troops at the start of the battle.  The Royal Canadian Mint engravers have designed this coin following celebrated Canadian artist Henri Julien’s famous illustration Bataille de Chateauguay (Battle of Chateauguay). 

The Battle of Chateauguay:

On October 26, 1813, the Canadian troops under the command of Charles-Michel de Salaberry won an important victory over the invading American forces led by General Wade Hampton.  The scene of this battle is located on the shores of the Châteauguay River, 50 km southwest of Montréal, near the U.S.-Canada border.
