This 2015 $20 fine silver coin is the second ever to include an inlay of genuine jade, an ornamental stone that has long symbolized prosperity. The combination of this new jade inlay carved to the shape of a polar bear and iconic artwork by Cindy Sorley-Keichinger featuring an Artic scene create an attractive and interesting limited edition collector coin. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver, and has a limited mintage of just 8,500 pieces. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The design features a polar bear inlayed in jade in the foreground. Two cubs are on the tip of the ice pack. Behind them, two whales show their tales in the vast expanse of the iceless waters, except for a few icebergs in the background. The polar bear’s two cubs carry on, somewhat playfully; while the smaller cub rests, its sibling takes the opportunity to explore its surroundings. Around the rim of the coin the word “CANADA”, the date “2015” and the face value of “20 DOLLARS” are engraved.
