She is Canada’s most famous ship, the “Queen of the North Atlantic” that still rules the reverse of our 10-cent circulation coin. A five-time winner of the International Fishermen’s Race, the legendary Bluenose rounds the coast once more on this 5-kg 99.99% pure silver tribute piece, whose colourful evening sky was made possible by photonic colours — an exclusive world first that has broken new ground in physics. Mintage is limited to 100 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse image by Canadian artist Yves Bérubé features the Bluenose under full sail, starboard tack. The Grand Banks fishing schooner races past a historic view of Cross Island lighthouse beneath the evening sky, whose colours are made possible by proprietary photonic technology. The obverse features a ship’s wheel that frames the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Already profiled in a number of publications, the award-winning advance in photonics was made possible through collaboration with researchers at the University of Ottawa.
