This ultra-low mintage 2019 $20 fine silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint features a full colour over engraved image of two polar bear nuzzling one another. With a mintage of just 4,000, this is one of the lowest mintage $20 silver coins ever issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, and a quick sell-out is anticipated. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The use of various frostings and colour add depth to the background, while a frosted proof finish on the engraving gives the ice a life-like appearance. The reverse design by wildlife artist W. Allan Hancock captures a tender moment between two polar bears (Ursus maritimus). One polar bear nuzzles the other in a gesture that expresses affection and highlights the social bond between the pair. A balanced mix of colour and engraving brings the Arctic landscape to life, helped by various frostings that separate the mountains from the sea ice. In the sky, a colourful sunset is reflected on the open water below, where an iceberg adds a cool turquoise hue. The reverse includes the year “2019” and the word “CANADA”, both struck incuse. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
