Description

Although 50-cent coins are no longer in circulation, once in a very rare while during an every-day transaction, a renegade 50-cent piece will be received. This denomination, though still technically legal tender, is struck less and less frequently by the Royal Canadian Mint; 1976 was the last year that the Mint released more than a few hundred thousand of the piece. This item, a roll of circulation-struck 50-cent coins, has a mintage limited to just 20,000 and a unique, eye-catching wrap makes this a special addition to any collection of RCM products, or a thoughtful, unusual gift. The obverse features and effigy of HRM Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse boasts the intricate Canada Coat of Arms. Proclaimed in 1921 by King George V as a representation of Canada, it features iconic images representative of France, England, Scotland and Ireland. In 1994, the Coat of Arms was modified so that the Latin motto, Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam ("they desire for a better country") could be added. Previously, in 1959, the 50-cent piece was modified to include Canada's motto, from sea to sea. This roll of iconic 50-cent pieces is an excellent way to own a piece of Canadian history.
