This beautiful $10 silver coin
pays tribute to one of the best aspects of a Canadian camping trip: paddling a
canoe along a tree-lined shore in the heart of the wilderness. The Royal
Canadian Mint proudly celebrates this Canadian experience with its exciting new
“Canoe Across Canada” series: offered as a 6-coin subscription, a new coin will
be launched monthly from February 2015 to July 2015. Each of these coins will
feature imagery that captures the joys and subtleties of the canoeing
experience that so many Canadians cherish.
The reverse image featured on
this coin by Canadian artist Greg Banning shows an outdoorsman and his husky
portaging along the Yukon River. On the left side of the image, the smiling man
carries a canoe on his shoulders (portaging), facing the viewer. Standing just
in front of him is his dog, whose back is turned to the viewer. The dog gazes
across the river toward the right side of the image where, on the opposite
bank, a large elk stands on a towering outcrop of rocks. Behind the elk, a
coniferous forest rises toward distant mountains.
This half-ounce, 99.99% fine
silver coin’s affordable pricing and striking detail makes this an excellent
gift for collectors, nature lovers, and those who enjoy Canadian pastimes. By
signing up for the subscription, you will receive a stunningly-crafted and
unique display box to store your 6 coins, which will be shipped to you before
the end of the 2015 as part of this subscription program. The display box is
cleverly crafted in the simplistic shape of a canoe.
