Nothing says winter fun for young and old alike than a snowman! Sculpting people from snow is a pastime that dates back to Europe in the Middle Ages. Old diaries give lively accounts of townspeople making snowmen in the streets after every snowfall, perhaps that is where the tradition of using a hat, a carrot for the nose and rocks or bits of coal for the eyes comes from.
This is the second coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's Holiday Lenticular annual series. The beautiful coloured design gives the illusion of movement tilt the coin and watch as the snowman throws snow in the air!
